What is unthinkable?
Obsessed with thinking the unthinkable, a thinker accelerates into a violent brainstorm that shatters his identity – revealing that who he truly is cannot be thought.
In The Unthinkable Brainstorm, philosopher Hellmut Monz recounts being bitten by a strange thought: what is the unthinkable? Unable to stop until he thinks it, he spirals into an impossible mental storm. Thought accelerates. Identity trembles. The mind becomes a thunderstorm.
At the climax, the thinker realizes that the self he took himself to be was itself only a thought. Anything that can be thought is not really real – only thought to be real. The philosophical short animation transforms overthinking into an onto-epistemological rupture, ending with the raw and destabilizing question: “What is this?”
