The Dream Problem

A philosophical animation by Hellmut Monz about the power of illusion, and how to escape its hypnotic grip.

Trailer for The Dream Problem

What if every awakening is just another asleepening?

Trapped in a seamless loop of false awakenings, a philosopher discovers that every escape from one dream leads into another – until waking itself appears as the deepest dream state.

In The Dream Problem, philosopher Hellmut Monz recalls being caught in a dream loop: waking up again and again, only to discover that each awakening was part of the dream landscape. With every false awakening, the search for truth becomes increasingly absurd and frightening. Every exit becomes another entrance. Every awakening becomes another asleepening.

The philosophical short animation turns the familiar experience of dreaming into an epistemological trap. It asks whether liberation comes not from waking up from a dream, but from waking up from the illusion that one ever fell asleep.

Hellmut "Helmet" Monz is the philosophy doctor with the mission of freeing philosophy. As an award-winning university educator and universe philosopher, he creates his work for those who love philosophy and seek infinity.

Born in Germany and raised in Austria, Hellmut went to Australia and Asia to find himself but had no success. Instead of himself, he stumbled upon something much better. Philosophically speaking, it is the best!
